Electives mad scientist convention

Hi my name is Dillon when our school had electives I was in the mad science convention.

On the first day we went to the museum we meet Tom who took us to do 'lotions and potions', that was really fun. We put mentos in coke after that we went into the lab then we got into groups of 5 or less then we did all sorts of fun activities then we had to leave to go back to school for lunch.

After lunch we did more activities at school like we had to pull the sheet of with out pulling the plates off and cups also we made slime ewww.

The next day we spent all day at school making our own rockets by putting a hole in the coke bottle then put a straw in it and a smaller straw in that one and blue tack the top of the top straw and the bottom so there is no gaps.

Thursday we went to the University to solve who stole the secret sauce from Dave’s Pizza Palace; Sweet Pea, Will de Orange, Blu Barrie or Lee Mon? It was Blu Barrie.

On Friday we had free time at the museum we learnt about the plasma lights they are really cool and we also had time in the butterfly house they were really pretty that’s what we did

Electives - metal and glass creations

On the first day of electives Mrs Butler and Mr Locker split us up into two groups. Metal with Mr Locker and glass with Mrs Butler.

In metal with Mr Locker, we started on some outdoor sculptures made of large cut outs of steel. Then we welded the pieces of our sculptures together to finish it. The next day we made rings out of silver. First though, we made a practice ring out of brass so we knew what to do. Once we had finished making our brass rings, we got to make our silver ring, which was very shiny and took ages to sand and buff properly.

On the first day of glass making, we made plaster to cast our glass lollies. We let our plaster set a bit before putting our lollies into the poisonous plaster. When it had completely set we took the lolly out and put some glass frit in. It got put in a box to take to the kilns. After that, we made glass tiles. We washed the glass plate, then dried it. Then we were allowed to start decorating it with coloured paint, powders and bits of metal/guitar strings. That got put in a box for the kiln, too. Then we made tiles out of clay, and put glaze on it. On the second day, we walked all around town and looked at different art things like the epic bee ring, the dark room, and lots of paintings at the art gallery. Metal and glass creations was the best elective because we saw a spinning door.

The Museum Trip

Before the Museum Trip
Tomorrow we are going to the museum. I still do not know what we are going to do but I do know that it is going to be fun. I think it will be something to do with natural disasters because that is our subject for this term. I've heard that there is something to do with a dark room but I'm not sure.

After the Museum Trip
Yesterday we went to the museum, it ended up to be about tectonic plates. We got to go into a dark blowup room that looked a bit like an igloo. Our guide had a projector thingy that showed the world and where all of the tectonic plates are. After that we went to the area that is all about dinosaurs and other ancient stuff including our earth. We had to decide if we should or could live there. Two of the three times we decided not to.

Presenting Digital Exhibits

At the end of Term 1 we presented our inquiry museum exhibits David brought his axolotl and there were lots of awesome exhibits. We all split into groups of about 6 to present our work, the reasoning behind this was that we wanted to alleviate the stress of presentation.
The things we had to do were write a report about an interesting animal's adaptation or how a group of people have adapted to their environment. We had to present it in an inventive way with a visual aid. We had about 3 weeks to do our inquiry. Mine was about mustelids. I thought it was a fun, interesting project and I enjoyed it.
